My peanut allergy family member has developed a coconut allergy. Subjection to allergies brings the immune system down. Our district makes popcorn with coconut oil in it, HELP!
I have my answer, the district is aware of the dangers of allergies and they are being served notice of it as well, and more...
The federal government has new data about this subject of oils that should not be allergens, surprise of surprises! Read on! http://www.faiusa.org/page.aspx?pid=378
my daughter reacts to coffee fumes, wood products ect in the schools . i asked for the coffeet o be removed for the 40 minutes she is in the class and i was told no. there is no school willin gto make it safe for her to attend. so she goes to an outreach and some days she lasts 10 minutes and then the next day maybe two hours. dependin gon how many are smoking and recking oof cig smoke, perfumes being sprayed in the air freely, amoutn coffee made and brought in (tim Hortons and star BUcks are relal bad for her to smell) teachers critize her for leaving but have no clue how much pain she endures from each reaction. her face is open again and the medicine they do not want o give to her any more and it is very costly to boot. se is just sick every day and in pain every day.
as she says no one wants me mom or cares not even the doctors do they care. she says i am the only one who cares and she hates bein gso reliant upon me for so much.
personally i have zero respect for schools any more . had a son sexually abused in grade four at school . i have been labled the trouble maker, lier, dysfunctional mother , you name it. i am tired and been dealing for 18 yrs with people not listening to me and shoving my kids in the corner or out of the schools.
peanut allergies i do know have more support in the states and canada and have better representation. you may have abettter chance. i did send my daughter to a private school and there was 30 kids frm 1 to 12 and what i saw a nd heard. kids are so mean and some love to see others sick. one boy litterly bleed throw his clothing and he never wil ever feel full but always hungry and one boy would tell him if somethrough somethin in the garbage and this kid would dig it out an deat while the others laughed. i am surprised he did not die for not even the teachers really cared.
sorry i do not mean to be a downer here. just hit me hard when i read your post. my heart breaks for you and all you will have to endure to keep your child safe. i wish this upon no one.
hugs dare
Hopefully your pediatrician or allergist has recommendations for this. Your child will have to deal with this all of his life in the work place, social outings etc. He will have to be proactive in asking what is in the ingredients. If he doesn't know, don't eat it. If he is sensitive to the smell, perhaps he can have his lunch away from the fumes or find a way to block the smell such as a mask.
I am allergic to all nuts. It is something that I have had to be my own advocate and be proactive for myself because my mom wasn't there to do it for me, it just was unheard of back in the 70s so no exceptions would have been made for me as I was most likely the only kid in the school who had this allergy. I used to be a little sensitive to the smells of peanut butter, and it didn't help that my brother used to stick it in my face to torment me. But I have been exposed to nuts all my life and maybe that's why they don't bother me too much. I can be at a table with nuts. I don't touch the nuts or try to touch the table because the oils will still make me itch. But I can hold the nuts if they are still in their shell. I cannot kiss my husband if he has been eating nuts. I learned that the hard way too!! I have a reaction about once a year and deal with it when it happens. Having Benedryl on hand helps. Oranges really help too if I eat nuts. The citrus breaks down the oil and kills the taste of it. Just something I figured out in desperation to get rid of the taste in my mouth. I have been doing it for over 30 years and it works everytime.
I hope my words have helped you......

Peanut allergy is a very serious matter. Maybe, your pediatrician should come to the school and explain this important issue to the school administration, therefore reserving the table for the students with this particular allergy. Also, the child should be constantly reminded to be aware of this matter and be careful. Wishing you well. God bless you.
